The Shakespeare Show

This afternoon headed to the cinema to see the encore performance of The Shakespeare Show. It was a variety show with skits based on the Bard! I loved every minute of was sheer brilliant. David Tennant & Catherine Tate (both of Doctor Who) were hosts and featured the talents of a whose who of British stage and screen celebrities such as Benedict Cumberbatch, Helen Mirren, Dame Judi Dench, Sir Ian McKellen, Kenneth Branagh, Joseph Fiennes, Hugh Laurie, Patrick Stewart, Rufus Wainwright, Meera Syal plus many from The English National Opera, The Royal Ballet, and so much more! Even Horrible Histories were there and I'm pretty sure we were the only people in the audience at our showing who knew who they were. There was a bit of squeeing I have to admit. Particularly entertaining was the To Be or Not to Be skit where David Tennant, Rory Kinnear, Judy Dench, Ian McKellan, Tim Minchin, Benedict Cumberbatch, Paapa Essiedu, Prince Charles and a woman whose name I didn't know but looked familiar. Another highlight was the Kiss Me Kate scene with Henry Goodman & Rufus Hound as well. Also breath taking, the pas de deux from the Othello ballet between Othello & Desdemona. Amazing all around and if you're a Shakespeare fan and missed it I'm so so sorry (to quote the Doctor)!
