Kinky Boots - Mirvish Productions

I didn’t know what to expect from the musical Kinky Boots as I saw waiting for the curtain to rise. I’d seen the movie with Chiwetel Ejiofor and Joel Edgerton back in 2005 (10 years ago now eek!) but can’t say any of my other friends did besides lady__croft. We loved it then. Now we were in the audience and it’d been adapted for the stage with original music by Cyndi Lauper. It couldn’t be bad could it? As it turns out it was fabulous, amazing, fun and very very uplifting. I’d recommend it to anyone. Leave your homophobia at the door please. The story, if you’re not familiar with it, is basically about a young man who inherits his father’s shoe factory but the shoes they make are no longer in fashion and not ones buy thus threatening the livelyhood of both owner and emplyees. Charles Price must come up with a creative solution or lose everything. Then he meets Drag Queen/singer Lola and everything changes. If they can work together to diversify the product then both can benefit in ways they never expected. Trust me when I say you’ll thank me later after you’ve seen it. An all-around good time with an uplifting message for anyone who feels they are different and don’t fit in.

My favourite songs has got to be Sex is in the Heel and Raise You Up, with the latter having everyone dancing in the aisle at the end of the show!!!

BTW....Alan Mingo Jr. as Lola and Graham Scott Fleming as Charlie Price were both terrific but I kept envisioning Orlando Jones and James Gordon in the musical roles and how amazing that would have been but I guess that would be something for Broadway and not TO. AJ Bridel as Lauren was incredibly funny and very OTT but twas fitting to be sure.

Edit: Kinky Boots has been extended and runs until March 6, 2015 at the Royal Alexandra Theatre. Stop reading this and GO SEE IT NOW!
