Moulin Rouge Ballet

February 23, 2014

The Royal Winnipeg Ballet put out a movie version of their long running production of Moulin Rouge. Saw it at Cineplex Theatres. Lovely French ballet set in the cabaret, pretty costumes, lively music and of course the Cancan performed ‘en pointe’ naturally! The story, like most stories, is one of love and loss. The prima ballerina reminded me of Nia Vardalos. I wish they’d do more of these… was almost like being there live but at a third of the price lol.

I love the ballet especially its grace and beauty but not the mangled toes so much but still I wish I was as graceful as a ballet dancer. When I was little I wanted to take ballet very badly but my mum said it was too expensive and I ended up in baton twirling instead. Ya laugh all you want but my love for the dance never diminished even after all these years. I could watch it for hours and the music is awesome too….best part of the Sochi 2014 Olympics were performances by the Bolshoi and Mariinsky ballet companies imho. Yes I love the ballet….I can’t say it enough. My favourite was the Dracula ballet I saw on my Birthday ages ago and more recently Alice in Wonderland in particular the ballet / belly dancers (en pointe) with the Hookah-smoking Caterpillar. Brilliant performances either way…..
