So Priscilla, Queen of the Desert: The Musical was absolutely fabulous. The costumes, the stage (movable bus that partly justs out into and over the audience at one point along with a sliding floor) plus the songs made the show a hit! The right blend of colour and campiness to boot! Go see it. The musical numbers are different from the movie (if you haven't seen it rent it). It was produced by Bette Middler so there was a lot of disco/pop numbers from the late 70's and early 80s....everything from Madonna to Cyndi Lauper to Gloria Gaynor. The actors were great and I really enjoyed performance of Will Swenson who was in a revival of Hair in London as Tick/Mitzy (Hugo Weaving's role in the movie). The character of Bernadette had Aussie actor Tony Sheldon live and in person all the way from Australia's original stage and London's West end production! And let me tell you these guys/gals all had incredible legs...dang!
Having seen the movie I was really curious to see how they were going to do the ping pong ball scene....you'll have to go see it to find out! Trust me you'll be laughing long after the performance is over!
Go see it if only for the toe tapping, hand clapping sheer fun of hanging out with 3 drag queens on a road trip across the Australian desert! You will survive I promise *wink*
