Prince of Persia

Saw Prince of Persia this afternoon with lady__croft . Were going to see Robin Hood but it's at a theatre that runs movies for a long time so we decided to use the movie passes my brother gave us a Christmas to go see it at the Scotiabank Theatre. It's not a epid film with historical reference but what it is a fun ride on an adventure through the desert! The opening scene is more or less a live action version of the animated movie Alladin. The plot is basically a young street urchin Dastan (Jake Gyllenhaal) is adopted by the King of Persia because he showed courage and promise of something more. When he grows up he and his brothers lead a raid on the Holy City of Alamut where they are told weapons are being manufactured and sold to the enemies of Persia. He he acquires a unique dagger for his efforts in battle! All is well until the King is poisoned by a gift that Dastan give his father which he got from his brother Tus. Dastan becomes an outlaw and teams up with the beautiful Princess of Alamut, Tamina (Gemma Arterton) who desperately wants the dagger back. Dastan quickly figures out the dagger is more than what it seems as it has special powers not only of time travel but to unleash a weapon so powerful it could destroy the world. And some of his enemies also want to possess the dagger and use it for evil. Dastan must out wit those who want the dagger, those who want him dead, those who are out for the bounty on his head, plus clear his name before his enemies destroy all he holds dear.

Jake Gyllenhaal does a fairly decent job as Dastan. Ben Kingsley plays Dastan's uncle and makes a damn fine villian. Also the Hassasin's special effects are pretty spif....entire movie reminds me of The Mummy with Brendan Fraser.

A fun thrill ride...2 thumbs up for long hair, hilarious moments and awesome music! Go see it...what the heck are you waiting for?
