Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rick Riordan

Started reading the Percy Jackson & the Olympians series by Rick Riordan which is better than Harry Potter! No srsly it’s a fantastic series and it’s based on the Greek gods. I can’t stop lol at geekiness of it all!!! I’m just finishing the first book The Lightening Thief – totally loving it!

Imagine you are a kid from the wrong side of the tracks, always getting into trouble, kicked out of school, mother who loves you, mia father, mean stepfather.  People act all weird around you including teachers and you think your best friend may not be who he says he is. Suddenly you are being chased by monsters such as the Furies disguised as teachers or old ladies and you slay said monster with a pen that turns into a sword right before your eyes. Then while on holiday with your mother you a Minotaur comes a calling ready to tear you to shreds and you end up at Camp Half Blood where there are kids like you…but what does that mean? Plus the one teacher you like from school is there as well as your best friend and they're not really human and you are told that you are not a normal human either but a demi-god!  And not just any demi-god/hero but as you find out later the son of one of the more powerful Greek Gods! And just as you’re getting used to being a would-be-hero-in-training that myths are based, making friends and enemies at camp - which is by the way the only safe place for those who are half mortal - you are suddenly accused of stealing Zeus’ master lightening bolt, World War III is about to break out between the gods of which most of them want you dead! Now imagine that it’s up to you to save your own ass by going on a suicide quest to find Zeus’ bolt thus averting the war and saving Western Civilization as we know it….what would you do? Take your two best friends  - a satyr and the daughter of Athena - and cross your fingers you all make it there and back in one piece!!! Welcome to Percy Jackson’s world and yes the Greek Gods are alive and well and living in New York…ok the Underworld is in LA but you’ll find out about that soon enough. The books are a thrill ride from Gorgon to Chimera to Cerberus …trust me any ancient history buff will fall in love with the characters and the situations our heroes find themselves in!

I couldn’t put the first book down…next up book 2: The Sea of Monsters and I can’t wait to see what else happens to Percy and his friends!
